What exactly is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
A DPP is a structured, machine-readable record attached to a physical product via QR or NFC. Under ESPR 2024/1781, the textile DPP must include composition, origin, repair information, substances of concern, and a unique identifier resolvable from the EU Registry.
When does ESPR enforcement actually start for textiles?
The EU DPP Registry opens 19 July 2026 (an index of identifiers — not enforcement itself). The textiles delegated act is expected to be adopted around 2027, with binding obligations applying roughly 18 months later — around 2028–2029. Bangladesh exporters with EU buyers should aim to be ready well ahead.
Do I need a DPP for every SKU or every garment?
Per-SKU at minimum. Many EU buyers — especially in luxury and outerwear — are requesting per-unit DPPs linked via GS1 SGTIN (serialized GTIN). DPP Live supports both modes and lets you switch per-PO.
How is the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculated?
We pull bill-of-materials from your PLM or Excel, map each fabric, trim and process step to emission factors from ecoinvent and the Higg MSI, then attach scope-1 factory energy data. The methodology aligns with EN 16258 and PEFCR Apparel & Footwear v1.3.
What languages does the WhatsApp bot support?
Today: Bangla, English, Hindi. In Q3: Vietnamese, Mandarin (Simplified), Urdu. The bot lets shop-floor merchandisers add care-label data, batch numbers and chemical certificates by replying to a message — no app install.
Is my data shared with my competitors or other brands?
No. Factory tenants are isolated. A buyer only sees the DPP records for the POs they themselves issued. The EU Registry stores only the resolvable identifier and a minimal public payload — full BOM and PCF detail stays in your tenant.
Can DPP Live connect to my existing PLM or ERP?
Yes. Native connectors for Centric PLM, Backbone, PTC FlexPLM, SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion and Microsoft D365. Custom connectors via the GraphQL API. SFTP/CSV ingest for legacy systems.
What happens if my factory loses internet during line-out?
DPP Live ships an offline-first Android tablet app. Passports are signed locally with a cached key, queued, and pushed to the EU Registry the moment connectivity returns. We have factories in Mymensingh running 6 hours offline with zero data loss.
Is the on-chain anchor mandatory — or can I opt out?
It's on by default for the Professional and Enterprise tiers because EU buyers increasingly require it in their tier-1 supplier contracts. You can disable it per-PO, but the QR will then display a “not anchored” status to consumers and auditors.
Which blockchain do you use, and why Polygon?
Polygon PoS. It's EVM-compatible, settles in under 2 seconds, costs roughly $0.001 per anchor at Merkle-batched volumes, and is carbon-negative since 2022. We're EBSI-ready for a future migration if the EU mandates a specific public ledger.
Is putting DPP data on a public chain a GDPR risk?
No — only the cryptographic hash is anchored. Personal data, BOM, supplier names, factory addresses and PCF detail stay in the factory's tenant. The hash is one-way: nothing can be reconstructed from it.
How much does on-chain anchoring cost per garment?
Roughly $0.001 per garment when DPPs are Merkle-batched (which we do automatically every 90 seconds). At unit-level serialisation that becomes ~$0.0003 per individual passport. We absorb gas-price volatility in our Professional tier.
Can an EU buyer verify a DPP without using DPP Live?
Yes. Every DPP includes its Polygon tx hash and a deterministic re-hashing recipe. Any auditor can pull the public payload from IPFS, recompute, and check Polygonscan independently — our software doesn't sit in the trust path.
What about the carbon footprint of using a blockchain?
Polygon PoS uses ~0.0003 Wh per transaction — about 99.9% less energy than Bitcoin. Anchoring 100,000 DPPs emits less CO₂ than printing a single hangtag. The network itself has been carbon-negative since 2022.
